How to close all positions in MT4?

Closing all your positions can be an excellent way to take a break from trading for a while or to get out of the market quickly during high volatility spells. Closing your positions in a single click is useful on Metatrader 4 when you want to close multiple trades without manually going through each one. This article explains how to close all your positions in one shot on MT4.

Finding the Close All Positions Option.

To close all positions in your MT4 trading terminal, you will need to navigate through the following steps:

  • Go to your trading terminal via the program that you use to access your MT4 platform.
  • Click on “Trading Terminal”.
  • Click on “Trading Terminal” again, which will open up a menu with all options available for that particular part of the program.
  • Scroll down until you see “Close All Positions”, and click on this option.

Closing a Single Position.

Closing a single position is as easy as clicking on the position you want to close and then clicking on the “Close” button. Confirm your order, and it will be closed.

Closing a Group of Orders.

To close all open positions at once, you can use two methods. The first uses the “Close” button. Simply click on the “Close” button in your MT4 platform, which will simultaneously close all your open positions. However, this method is not recommended because of possible discrepancies between price alerts and actual prices due to delayed data uploads from exchange servers with high latency times in some regions.

The second way to close all open positions is by using the “Close All” button next to each position’s name on your Orders panel. This method ensures that all trades are executed at their current market price without errors or glitches caused by delayed data uploads from exchange servers with high latency times in some regions.

Closing All Short Positions or Long Positions.

  • Select the position you want to close.
  • Click on the Close button.
  • If you have more than one position and only want to close some, then you will need to repeat this process for each additional position that needs closing by selecting it before clicking on the Close button again.

There are many ways to close positions in MetaTrader 4.

  • A single order: Use the Close button on the Order panel to close one position.
  • A group of orders: Select several positions and click the Close button on the Order panel for each position in this group.
  • All positions in a market or group (except Trailing Stop): Use the Close All command from the Market/Group menu or right-click the context menu while viewing a chart with open orders.
  • All short positions (if you have no long ones): Use the Close #1 Short command, available only when there is at least one open short position in your account, or click on its button if it’s visible on your chart’s toolbar (visible only when there is at least one open short position in your account). Clicking these buttons will place Stop Loss orders at current market prices for all closed positions (in case they were profitable), after which they’ll be closed automatically without further actions required from you as soon as possible after their opening prices are reached again.

Conclusion

Closing all your positions is a great way to minimize losses and reduce risk. This can be done on the single-trade level or across multiple trades. You can also use this feature if you have many open orders and want to close them all at once instead of closing each one individually.
